7 Essential Reasons to Diffuse Essential Oils
Hello hello, it's the start of another wonderful new week! Today I want to share with you something that has become a staple in my day, Young Living Essential Oils! Essential oils, in my opinion, are pretty amazing. They are all natural and help support a healthy lifestyle. I use them everyday in so many different ways, and I am constantly learning about new uses for them! I diffuse them, add them to my skin care routine, use them to clean and freshen the house, add to food and drinks, use them on my dog and apply them topically for many different reasons. One of the easiest ways to get started with using essential oils is to diffuse them! By diffusing essential oils you can easily bring a happy, uplifting, calming, or cleansing atmosphere to your home, workplace or even your car. Our mind creates powerful connections with our sense of smell and diffusing oils is a simple way to tap into your emotions, surroundings and memories. Diffusing oils can not only put you in a great mood, but they can also help you sleep, increase your energy and improve your health. Here are my favorite ways to diffuse essential oils.
Diffusing oils when I head to bed is when I most frequently use my diffuser. I keep it plugged in on my bed side table and start it up every night. My favorite combination is Lavender and Cedarwood; 1 drop of each is plenty. Lavender is relaxing and calming and Cedarwood is warm, earthy and comforting. The combination is heavenly and helps you quite your mind so you can drift off into a sound peaceful sleep.
If you have a pet, specifically a large dog, you know how smelly you house can get sometimes. Diffusing Purification (2 drops) and lemon (3 drops) is an excellent way to cleanse and freshen the air! This combination works great too to freshen the air after cooking a strong-smelling meal or if you come home to a smelly trash can. I love that I can just turn on my diffuser and use natural oils to cleanse the air rather than covering the house with chemical-filled, store-bought sprays.
On big cleaning days I always diffuse Thieves (3 drops) and move the diffuser around the house as I clean. Thieves is a Young Living blend that is a powerful combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils. Most of my homemade cleaning products use Thieves so diffusing just amplifies how fresh and clean the house smells. At the end of the day, I am left with a house that smells warm and spicy (it reminds me of Christmas) rather than chemical ridden and sterile.
On afternoons when I am working at home I love to diffuse 2 drops of Peppermint with 3 drops of a citrus. Tangerine, Lemon, and Citrus Fresh are my favorites. The Peppermint helps to energize and focus my attention on the work at hand and the citrus scent uplifts my mood. This combo always combats the 2pm slump and allows me to be happily productive the last few hours of the work day.
Whether it's an early morning shower before work or while getting ready to go out in the evening; if I am lacking energy, diffusing Eucalyptus is my favorite way to wake up and get the energy I need for the activities ahead of me. Any one who knows me well, knows I am not a morning person, nor am I a night owl; I thrive in the afternoon. So early mornings I definitely need a boost. Likewise, if I have a late evening ahead of me I need all the extra energy I can get! The invigorating scent of Eucalyptus is just want I need to stimulate my mood and energy levels.
Diffusing essential oils is a great compliment to any yoga or meditation practice. Frankincense (2-3 drops) is uplifting and earthy making it the perfect aroma for a grounding, spiritual experience. It will create a comforting and empowering environment when diffused; setting the stage for a very moving practice. It's for these reasons that Frankincense has been highly sought after since ancient times. I also love to combine 2 drops of Lavender with the Frankincense when I practice in the evening; particularly close to bed time. The Frankincense grounds and the Lavender soothes and calms; which will put you in a super relaxed state, readying your body and mind for sleep.
Essential oils are a fantastic tool to help combat stress! Whether you diffuse while you're in the car sitting in traffic (I got this great car diffuser here), when you get home after a rough day at work, or after a fight with a loved one diffusing Stress Away (3 drops) should be your go to. It's a delicious combination of Vanilla and Lime oils that will soothe and comfort your frayed nerves and help relax and put you at ease. Combine a citrus essential oil, like 3 drops of Lemon with Stress Away to give your spirits and mood an extra boost.
