Why you should take a vacation EVERYDAY!

Hello lovelies! I'm BACK from the BEST vacation of my LIFE!!

AND Holy Moly! I cannot believe how long it's been since my last post!!! Crazy long! It's insane, but the break was definitely needed! It feels like forever, but in the blink of an eye:

  • I turned 29 (eek)
  • Became a Mrs. (double eek)
  • Took 7 plane rides on an amazing 3 week honeymoon (sigh...)
  • Have now been back in the real world (meh) for over 2 weeks!!! 

September and October were a complete blur and a total dream!!! I married the love of my life and I am still on cloud 9! Now that I am back to the real world and my days no longer consist of sitting on the beach, eating fish tacos and watching the sunset I am back to the hustle and still trying to get back on track! Let me tell you, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL! So many projects and ideas and obligations have my head spinning, but in an awesome way! 

I feel energized and alive and excited for the year ahead!

That's what retreating does to you; it energizes. It allows you to push pause on work, responsibilities, deadlines and allows you to clear space in your head for ideas, dreams, and creativity to form. 

When is the last time you took a vacation or even a break from the never-ending to do list that is life sometimes? When was the last time you took time and space for just you? Where you push all of the must do's aside and allow the fog to lift and your head to become clear? 

It's probably been a while! 

If you're nodding your head yes, or you cannot even remember the last time you took some time to retreat, then I want to you to keep reading! 

Now listen, I realize life is life and responsibilities cannot just be thrown out the window so I am certainly not suggesting you drop everything and book a 3 week vacation tomorrow; although that would be truly amazing! What I am suggesting is to find time EVERYDAY to retreat; to vacate from life even if just for a few minutes. And then looking at your calendar to see if you can squeeze in even a few days away (a weekend will do) in the next few months. A day or 2, even if it is a staycation, where you turn off the computer, leave work at work and do something you truly love. Maybe its spending time with your love or spending the whole day reading. Whatever it is fit it in because this is your one amazing life and you deserve it. 

Finding time to retreat, reset and quite your mind can do amazing things for your health. If you are someone like me, who is constantly in their head always worrying about the next thing on the to-do list, I'm talking to you! I get so wrapped up in what I am working on I often hit walls and start to feel stuck. My creativity, patience and kindness go right out the window and I let the stress build and build until I explode; normally on my poor husband. Oh gosh, husband, that still feels weird :)

Think about it..what could 5 minutes of peace and quite do for you? 

Would it....

-help you relax?

-avoid a tension headache or a trip to the vending machine?

-allow you to clear your head and see the bigger picture?

-allow you to create some space so you can dream and plan your next move?

-reignite your creativity?

The answer to all of those questions is YES! 

Now, I know I may seem biased coming off a 3 week vacation, but what that time away taught me was how precious retreating is. Allowing your body and mind to reset allows you to come into your own and be your best self. 

And who doesn't want to be their best self?

So how can you retreat or vacation in every day life?

  • Take 5 minutes to sit quietly or meditate 
  • Read a book
  • Spend some time outside just breathing observing everything around you
  • Take a nice hot bath (add some Epsom Salts and Lavender Essential Oils for a real treat)
  • Take a day trip to the beach or the woods 
  • Spend a weekend hiking or camping
  • Do things that bring you joy and reconnect you with your happy place

Try to find something you can do every day just to take a pause and reset yourself. Also, make it a priority to get out of town or take a day just for you every so often. Find what works for you, schedule it into your life and make it happen. Make you a priority.

'Sometimes the best way to get ahead is to just be still. Quite your mind, your body and your spirit. Listen, observe and the answers will come.'
